AVATAR MEHER BABA P.P.C. TRUST

50th ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION PROGRAMME

of the 1969 GREAT DARSHAN,

APRIL to JUNE 1969

COMMEMORATING AT MEHERABAD (AHMEDNAGAR), INDIA

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, 22nd and 23rd NOVEMBER 2019

In 1968 Avatar Meher Baba had made extensive preparations for a public darshan programme to be held in Pune, India in the spring of 1969. Originally the darshan had been planned for Meher Baba’s followers in the East and West to see Meher Baba personally. Many in the West had heard of Meher Baba only in the last years of His life while He was maintaining strict seclusion and were hoping to see Him for the first time. The darshan had been planned for April to June 1969, but Baba dropped His body at the end of January, ahead of the scheduled darshan. Meher Baba’s mandali decided to proceed with the arrangements for the large darshan. Baba’s secretary Adi K. Irani sent out a circular that read, “God has invited you, and you are free to keep your appointment.” Several thousand attended this “Great Darshan,” including many hundreds of people from the U.S.A., Europe, and Australia.

Avatar Meher Baba P.P.C. Trust will be organising a two-day programme to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this Great Darshan. Baba lovers from all over the world are invited to participate in this two-day celebration. The programme will include presentations from the leading Baba centres and organizations in both the East and the West.  The centres are requested to make presentations between half an hour to one hour based on the major events around Beloved Baba’s dropping the body, the 1969 entombment, and the Great Darshan of April to June 1969. The presentations may be in the form of skits, videos, stories of Baba lovers who attended the Great Darshan, photographs, Baba films, short plays, exhibits, music, songs, poetry, etc. Presentations will be given by the centres on behalf of the lovers connected to the centre. It is also requested that the centres may suggest to us in what other way the centres can participate in this programme. In the previous commemoration programmes of the Trust, individuals were given a chance to share their memories of the concerned events, but in this programme, instead of individuals sharing their stories, the centres will be making the presentations.

The Trust will also be releasing a souvenir to include information about this commemoration programme. The centres may send us write ups of two or three pages, if they have some information related to the 1969 Great Darshan.

Even though the Great Darshan took place in Apirl to June 1969, for the sake of convenience the commemorative programme will be held in the month of November 2019. The dates of the programme will be 22nd and 23rd November 2019.

The programme duration will be 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. both days.

The programme venue will be the amphitheatre in front of Beloved Baba’s Samadhi or Hostel A Music and Arts Centre, depending upon the number of participants.

All Baba lovers are free to attend this programme, but prior information must be submitted before the stipulated date. The centres are requested to send a summary of their programme and the list of Baba lovers who may be attending the programme as the delegates of the centre.

All Baba centres are requested to send the list of those lovers who attended the 1969 Great Darshan. Baba lovers who are not connected to any centre may directly send their names to the organiser of this programme for including their names in the souvenir.

For presentation and participation, kindly inform Gokaran Shrivastava, Librarian, Meherabad Hill Library, [email protected] or [email protected], 0241-2548473.
